Palace shatter club transfer record for Benteke

Crystal Palace have announced they have signed Liverpool striker Christian Benteke for a club transfer record £32m.

Benteke, 25, only joined Liverpool last summer but has fallen out of favour at Anfield since Jurgen Klopp replaced Brendan Rodgers in October.

Alan Pardew’s side have been pursuing Benteke all summer but have finally got the goalscoring centre forward their side has been craving in recent years by surpassing the £13.26m they paid Newcastle for Andros Townsend earlier in the summer.

“I’m very happy to commit my future to Crystal Palace and I’m looking forward to meeting the manager, the players and the staff,” Benteke told Palace’s official website after penning a four-year deal.

“I feel really happy that the deal has been done and now I can look forward.”

Of players that have played in at least 1000 minutes in the Premier League since the start of last season only five required fewer minutes per goal than Benteke (168.7 mins).
