Sporting Lisbon have announced William Carvalho has extended his contract with the club until 2020.
Carvalho has regularly been mooted as the solution to Arsenal’s problems in midfield but the Portugal international has remained with his boyhood club for the last few years.
The 23-year-old has previously admitted his fondness for Arsenal, but he has now put pen to paper on a new five-year deal with a £35m buyout clause.
“I am very happy for the vote of confidence that Sporting CP have given me once more,” Carvalho told the club’s official website.
“Sportinguistas, I say to you that I am very happy with the deal which I signed up to 2020 and that you will have total effort on my part to be champions.”
Carvalho hasn’t featured as regularly for Sporting this season as he may have hoped, having only made two starts in the Europa League.
