Bournemouth have been served a huge blow in their bid to beat the drop this season after announcing star striker Callum Wilson will miss at least the next six months through injury.
Wilson, 23, was forced off after just 17 minutes of the Cherries 2-1 defeat away to Stoke on Saturday and scans have confirmed their worst fears after revealing he’s ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
“It’s very disappointing for Callum, after what has been an exceptional start to the season, but I am sure he will come back fitter and stronger,” Bournemouth’s manger Eddie Howe told the club’s official website.
“Callum is the type of character who won’t be fazed by such a setback, and I am sure he will turn this experience into a positive in the long run
“As I have said many times before though, this kind of setback offers others the opportunity to step up to the plate, show everybody what they can do and make a real impact at this level.”
Wilson becomes the third Bournemouth player to fall down with a serious knee injury, having already lost Max Gradel and Tyrone Mings earlier in the season.
However, it is the loss of Wilson that could prove to be the most detrimental for Howe’s men. Only Jamie Vardy (6) has scored more goals than Wilson (5) in the Premier League thus far, and his injury looks to have ended any hopes he may have had of being included in Roy Hodgson’s England squad for next summer’s for Euro’s.
