Premier League’s highest rated player on the cusp of move

Riyad Mahrez looks set to turn down a new contract for Premier League champions Leicester and seek a move away from the King Power Stadium this summer, reports the Guardian.

The Algerian secured a better WhoScored rating (7.84) than any other player in the Premier League last season and Leicester are understandably keen to retain the services of the 25-year-old.

However, Mahrez is expected to reject the Foxes’ contract offer as he seeks a move away from the champions in pursuit of a new challenge.

The attacker still has three years left to run on his current deal at the club, and so Leicester are under no pressure to sell this summer and can command a top fee for Mahrez.

Nevertheless, the news will come as a blow to Leicester, who are expected to lose N’Golo Kante to Premier League rivals Chelsea in the coming days.

Mahrez is unlikely to be short of potential suitors, with Arsenal and Barcelona both heavily linked with a move for the Algeria international in the past.
