Tottenham close in on club-record signing

Tottenham are on the brink of making their first signing of the summer and will almost certainly break their club transfer record to sign Ajax defender Davinson Sanchez, reports The Daily Mirror.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are the only Premier League side yet to sign a single player this summer but the Tottenham manager has assured fans they will add to their squad before the transfer window closes this month.

Tottenham are currently in advanced talks with Ajax for the transfer of 21-year-old Sanchez and hope to conclude a £30m deal for the Colombia international in the next few days.

Sanchez was omitted from the Ajax squad that faced Heracles on Saturday and the Dutch giants confirmed the centre-back was not in the right head space to play as he edges closer to a Premier League switch.

Ajax have already rejected a £20m bid from Pochettino’s side and have been holding out for £35m, but Tottenham are confident of lowering that asking price by including several add-ons and bonuses into the deal.

Tottenham close in on club-record signing

It means that Tottenham look set to break their club-record for the second summer in a row and fans will hope Sanchez proves more of a signing than Moussa Sissoko did 12 months ago.

The Colombian was heavily linked with a move to Barcelona before eventually joining Ajax last summer and enjoyed an impressive debut campaign, although was seen as a weak point by Manchester United in last season’s Europa League final.

Sanchez made more accurate passes (2017) than any other player in the Eredivisie last season.
