John Terry makes u-turn on move to Spartak Moscow

 

Former Chelsea captain John Terry has announced he will not join Russian giants Spartak Moscow due to for family reasons.

 

Terry is a free agent after leaving Aston Villa at the end of last season and recently revealed he has not retired.

 

The former England captain emerged as a shock target for Spartak Moscow earlier this month and even completed a medical with the Russian side.

 

However, Terry has now decided against moving to Russia after discussing the move at greater depth with his family.

 

“Spartak are an ambitious club and I have been very impressed with their professionalism,” Terry posted on his official Instagram account.

 

“But after assessing this move with my family, we’ve decided this is not the right move for ourselves at this time.

 

“I would like to take the opportunity to thank Spartak and wish them and their supporters well for the rest of the season.”

Terry dropped down to the Championship to try and get Villa promoted last season but the Midlands club fell at the final hurdle, losing the play-off final to Fulham.

 

The 37-year-old started 35 league games for Villa last season and earned his highest WhoScored rating in a single league campaign for the first time since 2014/15 (7.03).
