Guardiola eases concerns over injury to star man
Benjamin Mendy will undergo tests after he had to be replaced in the first half of Manchester City’s 5-0 win over Crystal Palace, the Manchester Evening News report.
The left-back has enjoyed a strong start to life in the Premier League, so concerns over his fitness ahead of a Champions League tie with Shakhtar Donetsk were understandable.
The former Monaco man suffered a knock to his knee on Saturday but the City manager has given the fans some good news ahead of Tuesday’s encounter.
Guardiola stated after the match: “Tomorrow he will have a real test. He feels better - it was a kick. Hopefully not his ligament.”
The player himself took to Twitter to allay fears over the seriousness of his injury, though it remains to be seen whether the Frenchman will have a part to play in midweek. Mendy had made the left wing-back berth his own, starting four of the last five games having been rested in the EFL Cup last week.
