Bayern Munich star signs new deal

Bayern Munich have announced Joshua Kimmich has put pen to paper on a new five-year deal running until June 2023.

Kimmich’s previous deal was due to expire in 2020 and Bayern have moved to secure the long-term future of one of their brightest talents.

The 23-year-old is expected to hold down a position in the Bayern and Germany first-team for the years to come.

Manchester City were previously linked with a move for Kimmich as Pep Guardiola was keen to reunite with the versatile defender but he has now committed his long-term future to Bayern.

“I’m very happy I’ve extended my contract so early,” Kimmich told the club’s official website. “It shows the club and the officials have a lot of trust in me and see me as an important factor for FC Bayern’s long-term sporting success. It makes me proud.

“I’m grateful that I’ve always been able to develop at the highest possible level, and that it’ll go on – and that I have the best conditions to take on an important role, in the national team too.

“My goals and the club’s goals for the coming years are very ambitious, and I want to play my part and do everything to achieve them with the team.”
