Tottenham boss open to midfielder leaving in January
Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho is open to the possibility of Gedson Fernandes returning to parent club Benfica in January, reports Sport TV, via Sky Sports.
The Portuguese midfielder moved to the north London side last January, but has failed to make an impact at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, making just seven league appearances, all from the bench.
The 21-year-old's only appearance for Spurs this season has come in the Carabao Cup, with the arrival of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and resurgence of Tanguy Ndombele pushing Fernandes further down the pecking order.
And Mourinho has suggested that the Portuguese outfit are considering recalling Fernandes in January, stating: "For me it is never a problem, but a solution. Having him in the squad, even if he is not called up and not playing, is an extremely comfortable situation.
"I will never be the one to push him or say that I don't want him here. But I understand the situation of the kid and Benfica.
"If the club wants to end the relationship here, we will be here to collaborate, because we want the good of the player. Benfica has the power to decide and will be accepted by us."
Fernandes isn't the only midfielder struggling for action at the club, with Dele Alli making just two Premier League appearances this season.
