Chelsea midfielder set for Stamford Bridge exit

Chelsea are set to tell John Obi Mikel he will not be offered a new deal at the end of the season, reports The London Evening Standard.

Mikel, 29, has entered the final 12 months of his existing deal with Chelsea but is yet to feature under Antonio Conte this season as he continues to build towards full fitness.

The Nigeria international has spent the last 10 years at Chelsea after joining from Lyn Oslo in 2006 but has dropped down the pecking order under the likes of N’Golo Kante, Nathaniel Chalobah, Nemanja Matic and Nathaniel Chalobah.

Conte has recently recalled Mikel to first-team training but it is understood that he will be free to leave the club at the end of the season, as he does not feature in the Chelsea manager’s long-term plans.

Since the start of last season Chelsea have won 48.3% of their Premier League matches without Mikel in the team compared to just 26.3% of them with him.
