Leicester ace signs new deal

Leicester have announced Demarai Gray has put pen to paper on a new four-year deal until June 2021.

Gray’s previous deal wasn’t due to expire until 2020 but the Foxes have been keen to resolve his long-term future since the end of last season.

The England U21 international has struggled for first-team opportunities since joining from Birmingham in January 2016 and he considered his future at the club over the summer.

Leicester rejected a bid in the region of £20m from Bournemouth for his services before the start of the current campaign and have finally managed to convince the 21-year-old to pen new terms.

“I’m very happy,” Gray told Leicester’s official website. “Now I just want to kick on and keep doing what I’m doing. I want to be starting games and, for me to be doing that, I have to work hard in training.

“As a whole, we’re a good group and we have a good dressing room. Now I want to get my head down and keep kicking on for the team. For me personally, it’s now about developing as a player and the rest will take care of itself.”

New manager Claude Puel would have been impressed with Gray after handing the talented winger a rare start in their 2-0 win over Everton last weekend.

Gray finished as the WhoScored man of the match against the Merseysiders (8.09 rating) after sealing all three points with the second goal.

However, since January 2016, Gray has been subbed on more times than any other Premier League player (39) and that is what needs to change for the benefit of his development.
