Motta renews deal with PSG

Thiago Motta has ended speculation regarding his future at Paris Saint-Germain after renewing his contract until June 2017, reports Marca.

Motta, 33, has been heavily linked with a return to Atletico Madrid and Inter this summer, but has now committed his future to the Ligue 1 champions.

The Brazilian-born midfielder, whose previous deal was set to expire next summer, has won the Ligue 1 title in each of his three seasons at PSG.

"I am extremely happy to see Thiago Motta extend his contract," said PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi in a statement published on the club's official website. "Thiago is a fan favourite, as we saw during his last match at the Parc des Princes, when the crowd chanted his name several times.

"Since the start of this season, he has once again proved what an important element he remains in our playing system. Over the past few years, his immense experience has been crucial in the team's progress"

"His experience in the Champions League, that he has already won twice, will once again be integral to the club's ambitions to take the next step in Europe. For me, there was never any question of letting such a great player leave the cub," he finished.

Furthermore, of players to have made more than five appearances in Ligue 1 last season, only Lyon’s Arnold Mvuemba finished the season with a pass success rate as high as Motta (both 92.9%).
