Manchester United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka has withdrawn from Gareth Southgate’s England squad with a back injury, the Football Association has announced.
Southgate included Wan-Bissaka in his 25-man squad for upcoming internationals against Bulgaria and Kosovo after his impressive form for new club Manchester United.
Wan-Bissaka has arguably been United’s best player during their first four league matches and was picked for England ahead of Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker.
However, the Football Association has now confirmed Wan-Bissaka has suffered a back injury in training and will not feature for the Three Lions, with no replacement lined up.
“Aaron Wan-Bissaka has withdrawn from the England squad,” a statement read on the FA’s official website. “The Manchester United right-back has returned to his club due to a back issue.
“With Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kieran Trippier already include in Gareth Southgate’s now 24-man squad, no replacements are planned."
Wan-Bissaka has completed more tackles and interceptions combined (30) than any other player in the Premier League and the second highest WhoScored rated player at United (7.32).
