Inter plot summer move for Tottenham ace

Inter want to sign Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen when his contract expires at the end of the season, claims The Guardian.

Vertonghen hinted at the end of September he could renew with Tottenham but no progress has be made by the club since then.

Tottenham will block the 32-year-old from leaving in January but Inter are happy to wait until the summer before signing the centre-back on a free transfer.

Inter will be able to agree a Bosman transfer with Vertonghen as early as January and the Serie A giants are reportedly prepared to offer the veteran a three-year deal.

Tottenham are unlikely to be able to match that length of deal, which makes it increasingly likely Vertonghen will move on at the end of the season.

Vertonghen has been one of the Premier League's best defenders in recent years but has dropped down the pecking order at Tottenham this season.

The Belgian was benched for Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Liverpool and has only started six Premeir League games this season.
