Juventus plot bid for Roma midfielder

Juventus are ready to beat Premier League competition to sign Roma midfielder Leandro Paredes, according to Corriere dello Sport, via Football Italia.

Paredes has struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular at Roma this season despite his obvious qualities in midfield and that task has been made even harder since Luciano Spalletti’s decision to change the shape of the team to a back three.

The immediate future of the Argentina midfielder has been cast into doubt after Spalletti refused to deny reports suggesting Roma needed to sell the 22-year-old to raise money to sign Godfred Donsah from Bologna.

Paredes has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool in the past and they are now the only Premier League side understood to be interested in his signature, although Juventus are keen to pip their European rivals to his signature and could match Roma’s €30m (£25.6m) valuation.

However, Roma would be reluctant to sell the gifted midfielder to their main rivals having already been forced to sell Miralem Pjanic to the Old Lady last summer.

Parades has only started six league games this season but has been afforded greater freedom in the Europa League where he has really made his mark. In fact, only Ander Herrera (105.7) averages more passes per game in UEFA’s second-tier competition this season than the Roma midfielder (99.8).
