Chelsea holding firm on Matic transfer to Manchester United

Nemanja Matic’s proposed move to Manchester United is being held up by Chelsea, who are yet to agree on the terms of bonus payments for their midfield star, The Sun reveals.

The Serbian international has been told that he is free to leave Stamford Bridge this summer after the Premier League champions secured the services of former Monaco man Tiemoue Bakayoko.

A reunion with old Blues boss Mourinho has been on the cards for some time now, and the player is believed to have agreed terms on a move to United, with the fine details of the deal proving to be the stumbling block as things stand.

It’s thought that an initial fee for the 28-year-old’s services has been agreed in the region of £50m, but Chelsea want more bonuses to be paid should Matic reach certain milestones for the Red Devils.

The midfielder started 30 of 35 league appearances en route to the title last season, registering 7 assists, but found game time less frequent in the second half of the campaign as Antonio Conte began to plan for life without a player that was deemed a saleable asset.

Should the Serb complete a move to Manchester as expected it would pave the way for Marouane Fellaini’s exit from the club.
