Manchester City sign former England international Scott Carson
Manchester City have announced the arrival of former England international Scott Carson on a season-long loan deal.
Pep Guardiola has sanctioned a deal for the 33-year-old to slot into the City squad as their third choice goalkeeper for the new season.
Ederson and Claudio Bravo remain first and second choice, respectively, for the Premier League champions but the latter has only recently returned from a serious Achilles injury.
City were left scrambling for a back-up goalkeeper last season when Bravo suffered a serious Achilles injury this time last year and Guardiola wants to avoid any repeat scenario.
Guardiola wanted to sign Eibar veteran Asier Riesgo but has swooped for Carson to help meet homegrown quote commitments.
Carson has been Derby’s first-choice goalkeeper for the last four seasons but now returns to the Premier League for the first time since the 2010/11 campaign with West Brom.
Since August 2015, Carson has kept at least 14 more clean sheets than any other goalkeeper in the Championship (56).
