Kasper Schmeichel has signed a new five-year deal with Premier League champions Leicester City, the club has announced.
The Dane was one of the club’s most consistent performers for the Foxes last season and has been rewarded for his form with a new contract.
“Leicester City are delighted to announce that Kasper Schmeichel has committed his future to the Football Club by signing a new five-year contract until 2021,” a statement read on the club’s official website.
“The 29-year-old Denmark international played every minute of Leicester City’s historic 2015/16 Premier League winning campaign and has been a key member of the squad since his arrival in the summer of 2011.
“Schmeichel’s performances throughout the season were crucial to the Foxes’ march to the title, and with just 11 Premier League goals conceded in 2016, the quality at the very top level was there for all to see.”
On his new deal, Schmeichel said: "I'm just buzzing and I can't wait for the season to get started. It was a very easy decision. It was a case of coming back after winning the Premier League and making sure that the hunger was the same within myself and the squad. I've come back absolutely convinced that this is the place for me to be.
"We've taken some massive steps and ever since I arrived it's been fantastic. I've loved being here from minute one."
The Denmark shotstopper kept 15 clean sheets in the Premier League last season, a return bettered only by Petr Cech (16).
