Southampton defender Virgil Van Dijk will snub a move to Arsenal or Liverpool in favour of Manchester City to link up with Pep Guardiola, reports The Manchester Evening News.
Van Dijk, 25, is expected to leave Southampton at the end of the season after establishing himself as one of the best defender in the Premier League with nearly all the league’s biggest clubs chasing his signature.
The Netherlands international has been sidelined with an ankle injury since January and isn’t expected to feature again this season, but the centre-back is keen to join City with Guardiola holding the keys to his future.
City have been linked with a move for the Southampton defender but may be put off by Southampton’s £50m valuation, while Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is also an admirer.
In the last two Premier League campaigns Van Dijk has been awarded the WhoScored Man of the Match award at least six more times than any other player for Southampton (10), illustrating his importance to the club.
