Wolves close in on loan signing of Chelsea striker

Wolves are expected to wrap up a deal to sign Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham on loan for the remainder of the season early next week, reports Sky Sports.

Abraham has spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Championship side Aston Villa but is keen to test himself in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old has been left out of Villa’s squad to face Swansea in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday and is now closing in on a move to Wolves.

Wolves have until January 14 to get a deal for Abraham over the line otherwise Chelsea’s recall clause will expire.

Abraham is one of the best goalscorers in the Championship and it will be a massive blow to Villa’s promotion hopes if they lose the England international.

Having already represented Chelsea and Villa this season, albeit in the Community Shield for the former, Wolves are now just waiting for FIFA approval before a deal can be completed.

The Premier League and Football Association have both given the green-light for a deal to proceed but FIFA will have the ultimate say on the matter, though no problems are expected.

Wolves manager Nuno has made signing a new striker a priority this month following their woes in front of goal this season.

The newly-promoted side have adapted well to the rigours of the Premier League but have often let themselves down in matches by their failure to put goalscoring chances away.

Abraham has certainly been in red hot form in front of goal this season, netting 16 goals in 20 league appearances, but there are still question marks about his credentials in the Premier League.

Abraham only scored five goals in 31 Premier League appearances on loan at Swansea during the 2017/18 season but there is a feeling Wolves’ system can bring the best out of the youngster.
