Liverpool open to Lucas bids

Liverpool have not put Lucas Leiva on the transfer list, but they are willing to listen to offers, according to ESPN.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are hoping to fetch in the region of £8m for the defensive midfielder, who will find first-team opportunities limited following the arrival of James Milner and the emergence of Emre Can.

The 28-year-old did not travel with the squad that beat Stoke City 1-0 on Sunday, but has a contract that runs until 2017 with the club.

Liverpool open to Lucas bids

Liverpool signed Lucas from Gremio for £5m in 2007 and the Brazilian midfielder has played a prominent part in the Anfield set-up ever since.

However, last season saw Lucas make his fewest league appearances (20) in the last six years. Despite a restricted role, no player that made more than 10 league appearances across Europe’s top 5 leagues required fewer minutes per tackle (every 16.8 mins) than Lucas.
