Manchester City target Ilkay Gundogan will miss Euro 2016 after dislocating his knee cap in training with Borussia Dortmund, the club have confirmed, via Goal.com.
Gundogan, 25, has struggled with a string of serious injuries in the last three years, and was forced to miss the World Cup because of injury, but had looked back to his best this season.
The Germany international has been heavily linked with a move to City and had been earmarked as a top target for incoming manager Pep Guardiola, but that deal would now seem up in the air with the Dortmund midfielder set for another long spell on the sidelines.
Germany are already likely to be without captain Bastian Schweinsteiger in the summer and Gundogan’s absence is a real blow to their chances of following up World Cup success with the Euro trophy.
No player has won possession in the midfield third more times in the Bundesliga this season than Gundogan (108).
