Juventus eye free transfer of Manchester United ace

Juventus are interested in signing Manchester United ace Juan Mata on a free transfer next summer, claims the London Evening Standard.

Mata’s current United deal is due to expire at the end of the season and there have been no talks about an extension.

Jose Mourinho values Mata’s importance in the dressing room and wants to keep the Spaniard but the 30-year-old will be free to discuss terms with foreign clubs in January.

Juventus have made a habit of signing top quality players on free transfers in the last decade having done so with the likes of Emre Can, Andrea Pirlo, Kingsley Coman and Dani Alves.

The Serie A champions will look to open talks with Mata in January if United have not agreed new terms with the Spain international by then.

Mata is approaching his four-year anniversary at United after joining from Chelsea in a £37.1m move at the start of 2014.

Since then, no United player has played a direct hand in more Premier League goals than Mata (43), while he has also registered at least 81 more key passes (205).
