Manchester City snub Bayern Munich swap deal including Sane

Bayern Munich have failed with a proposed swap deal including David Alaba for Manchester City winger Leroy Sane, claims Sport Bild.

Sane has been heavily linked with a move to Bayern for the last 12 months as the Bundesliga giants desperately scour the market to fill the voids left by Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.

Bayern were forced to put last summer's pursuit of Sane on hold after the Germany international suffered a serious knee injury in August's Community Shield.

Sane has since returned to full training and should be in the first-team picture once the suspension on football is lifted.

The 24-year-old will only have 12 months left to run on his existing City deal in the summer and Pep Guardiola's side will cash in if new terms cannot be agreed.

Bayern are the frontrunners to sign Sane if he leaves City and have used the downtime in football to work on a potential deal for the winger.

It has now emerged Bayern have offered Guardiola the chance to reunite with versatile left-back David Alaba as a makeweight in a deal for Sane.

Alaba was a key player under Guardiola during his three years at Bayern and has struggled to maintain the same form since the Spaniard's departure.

However, City have knocked back Bayern's proposal and will likely only accept cash if they are forced to sell Sane.

Uncertainty about Sane's future was sparked towards the end of the 2018/19 campaign after dropping out of favour under Guardiola.

Despite a lack of consistent game time, Sane registered double figures for goals and assists (both 10) last season, having also managed the feat in the 2017/18 campaign (10 goals, 15 assists).
