Manchester United have stepped up their interest in Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez after he rejected their latest contract offer, according to The Daily Mirror.
Saul, 21, is happy with life at Atletico and wants to stay but differences have reportedly emerged during contract negotiations.
United were heavily linked with the midfielder in the January transfer window but have been given fresh hope after the Spain Under-21 international rejected Atletico’s latest attempts to extend his current four-year deal, which has a £25m buy-out clause.
Of players aged 21 and under, only four have completed more tackles than Saul (62) in Europe’s top five leagues this season.
