Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has revealed Chelsea loan star Tammy Abraham is sweating on scan results after fears he has suffered a serious thigh injury.
Abraham, 21, was forced off midway through the first half of Bristol’s 2-1 defeat to Leeds on Tuesday night and the club are set to find out the extent of his thigh injury in the next 24 hours.
The England Under-21 international, who joined Bristol on a season-long loan deal at the start of the season from Chelsea, has been in sublime form for the Robins this season and he could now miss a large portion of the remainder of the current campaign.
“He has done something to his thigh although we don’t know to what extent yet,” The London Evening Standard quote Johnson as saying.
“Tammy is gutted because he thinks it’s something serious. We hope that isn’t the case. We need to get it scanned over the next day or so to see how bad it is.
“He’s played a lot of games for a young kid, but you cannot leave him out when he is nigh-on the top scorer in the league.”
Abraham had been using his time with Bristol as an audition for Antonio Conte as he looks to force his way into the Chelsea manager’s plans for next season and he has gone about it the right way.
In fact, only Dwight Gayle (20) and Chris Wood (19) have scored more goals in the Championship this season than Abraham (18).
