Veteran set for Spain call-up

Athletic Club striker Aritz Aduriz is set to be rewarded with his astonishing form with a call-up to the Spain squad for their upcoming friendlies against Italy and Romania in March, according to Marca.

The 35-year-old’s last and only cap came in October 2010 despite being among the most prolific goalscorers in Spain for the last four years.

Spain head coach Vicente del Bosque has reportedly held the Athletic Club strikers’ age against him for his lack of action in the national set-up, but Aduriz is set to be given a huge boost ahead of the Euro’s this summer with some game time next month.

Since August 2012, only Cristiano Ronaldo (134), Lionel Messi (132) and Karim Benzema (61) have scored more goals than Aduriz in La Liga (60).
