Manchester United fan favourite not interested in return to Spain

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera says he is happy at Old Trafford and is not listening to speculation linking him with a move to Barcelona.

Herrera has entered the final 12 months of his existing deal but reports emerged over the weekend suggesting Jose Mourinho’s side were on course to reward the 28-year-old with a new £200,000-a-week deal.

Barcelona head coach Ernesto Valverde is reportedly keen to reunite with the Spain international at the Camp Nou having previously worked with Herrera at Athletic Club, but the United midfielder insists he is only focused on life at United.

“There is nothing certain about Barcelona because I am very happy at United and I feel valued and focused here,” MARCA quote Herrera as saying during United’s pre-season tour of America.

Herrera was one of the best players in the Premier League last season and was hailed by Mourinho as one of the smartest players he has ever coached in the aftermath of their Europa League final win over Ajax in May.

There were even calls for Herrera to be made United captain before Mourinho opted to promote Michael Carrick in the wake of Wayne Rooney’s move back to Everton earlier this month.

Only Harry After (73) and Marten de Roon (72) were dribbled past more times in the Premier League last season than Herrera (65).
