Barcelona midfield ace could be ruled out for a month
Barcelona could be without star midfielder Sergio Busquets for around a month’s time after the Spaniard suffered suspected sprained ankle ligament damage in their win over Eibar on Sunday, reports AS.
Busquets, 28, was stretchered off after eight minutes in Barcelona’s 4-0 win away to Eibar at the weekend following a rough challenge from Gonzalo Escalante that went unpunished by referee Sanchez Martinez.
Luis Enrique’s side are now sweating on scan results but initial fears are that Busquets could miss at least a month’s action, which could see the Spain international miss at least seven matches.
It serves as a real blow to Barcelona’s chances of catching Real Madrid in the race for the league title, as well as Enrique’s hopes of reclaiming the status as European champions.
Busquets will almost certainly miss the first leg of their Champions League knockout match against Paris Saint-Germain midway through next month, while he could also miss the trip to Atletico Madrid in just over four week’s time.
Since the start of the 2009/10 campaign Busquets has completed more passes than any other player in La Liga (15,611).
