Paris Saint-Germain defender confirms contract talks
Brazilian defender Marquinhos has confirmed talks are underway with Paris Saint-Germain about extending his stay at the club.
Marquinhos’ current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2019 and there had been doubts over his long-term future after failing to establish himself as a first team regular under Laurent Blanc.
However, David Luiz’s deadline day departure in the summer has paved the way for the Brazil international to become a fixture in the team under Unai Emery and the versatile defender has now confirmed he is on contract to renew with the club.
“Talks are underway, that is true,” ESPN quote Marquinhos as saying at the end of last week. “However, there is no agreement with the club yet, so there is not much to say. It is expected, so we will see.”
Marquinhos is only one start short of equalling his best season for PSG in terms of appearances for the club and with three months of the season remaining he is well on course to enjoy his best season for the club.
In fact, the former Roma defender opened his account for the season in their 5-1 demolition of Marseille at the weekend, while only Dante (94.5%) and PSG teammate Thiago Silva (93.6%) have a better pass success rate.
