Manchester United defender secures January exit

Argentine club Estudiantes have confirmed they have signed Marcos Rojo from Manchester United on loan.

Rojo spent five-and-a-half years at United but failed to stay fit during that time and never been first choice.

United surprisingly handed Rojo a new long-term deal in March 2018 and have struggled to offload the Argentina international ever since.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suggested Rojo would not be leaving the club this month as recently as Tuesday but he has now secured a move to his boyhood club.

Rojo has been out injured since the start of November and has spent a large bulk of rehabilitation in Argentina.

The 29-year-old has been limited to just 122 minutes of playing time in the Premier League this season. He did manage four starts during the Europa League group stage.

Surprisingly, since Rojo joined United, the Red Devils have a better record in the Premier League when he has started (56.3%) compared to when he hasn't featured from the off (49.3%).

Estudiantes, who also have former Barcelona defender Javier Mascherano, are currently midtable in the Argentine Superliga, though only five points off second.
