Arsenal to chase Dortmund star

Arsenal will try to sign Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus if they fail to keep hold of Alexis Sanchez or Mesut Ozil, according to The Daily Telegraph.

The Gunners are currently locked in talks with both Ozil and Sanchez about renewing their deals with the club but are refusing to meet their massive wages demands fuelling speculation the duo will leave.

Both players have 18 months remaining on their existing deals and Arsenal may be forced to cash in if their futures are not resolved by the summer, with Arsene Wenger already weighing up alternatives.

The Arsenal boss has held a long-standing interest in Reus and has reportedly earmarked the Germany international as the ideal replacement for either Ozil or Sanchez.

Reus’ current deal isn’t due to expire until 2019 but he would receive a significant raise hike if he was to join Arsenal, although not in the region of what Sanchez and Ozil are demanding.

The 27-year-old has endured a turbulent time since returning to first-team action in November from another long-term injury. Reus has played a direct hand in eight goals in his six matches in all competitions this season, but was sent off for the first time in his career in Dortmund’s 2-2 draw Hoffenheim last Friday.

Despite the fact Reus’ career has been plagued by a series of long-term injuries, no player has created more chances in the last eight Bundesliga campaigns (444).
