Newcastle United are still willing to pay £18m for West Brom outcast Saido Berahino, according to the Daily Mail.
Steve McClaren’s side saw the same offer rebuffed before the start of the season but are now hopeful the West Brom can be tempted to part ways with the England Under-21 international following his poor start to the season.
The Baggies had categorically ruled out Berahino’s departure over the summer but the forward has completely fallen out of favour under Tony Pulis and looks certain to leave this month.
Tottenham had been favourites to land the 22-year-old, but their interest may have diminished following the events that have followed his decline this season.
Newcastle are now frontrunners to land Berahino and are even prepared to break their current club-record fee (£16.5m for Georginio Wijnaldum, 2014) to sign him.
The Magpies are currently two points adrift of safety and have failed to score in any of their last four matches in all competition (360 minutes). Berahino, meanwhile, has only scored three goals in 15 league appearances this season.
