Tottenham earmark Pochettino’s replacement

Tottenham will move for Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe if they fail to convince Mauricio Pochettino to snub Manchester United next summer, claims The Daily Mail.

United appointed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their caretaker manager for the remainder of the season on Wednesday after dismissing Jose Mourinho just over 24 hours ago.

The Red Devils will spend the next six months re-structuring the club before appointing a full-time manager in the summer.

Former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane continues to be linked with the Old Trafford hot-seat but Pochettino is the favourite.

The 46-year-old only signed a new five-year Tottenham deal in May and United could end up playing in excess of £34m to release him from it at the end of the season.

Tottenham earmark Pochettino’s replacement

Pochettino is understood to be keen on the idea of becoming United manager and Tottenham have made Howe their No.1 choice to replace the Argentine.

Howe has spent the last six years as Bournemouth manager and has guided the Cherries from League One all the way to the Premier League in that time.

Bournemouth have lost six of their last seven Premier League matches but that shouldn’t detract from what has been an impressive season for the club.

The 41-year-old has a win ratio of 43.8% from his 290 matches during his current spell as Bournemouth manager and that increases to 46% when you factor in his first spell at the club.
