Harry Maguire latest Hull star to snub new contract offer

Hull have been served another blow in their bid to beat the drop this season with Harry Maguire set to follow in the footsteps of Robert Snodgrass and turn down a fresh contract from the club amid interest from their Premier League rivals, reports The Sun.

The 23-year-old is now on the radar of Southampton and Everton after turning in a series of impressive performances since returning to full fitness at the end of November, which culminated in a WhoScored Man of the Match display against Chelsea last weekend.

Everton and Southampton are both looking to strengthen their defence, although Southampton’s need for a new defender is more pressing after losing captain Jose Fonte to West Ham and Virgil Van Dijk to a long-term ankle injury.

Any suitors of the Hull defender have now been given a boost in their pursuit with Maguire poised to turn down the club’s offer of a fresh deal, as Snodgrass did at the turn of the year.

Maguire only has 18 months remaining on his existing deal and Marco Silva’s side will be determined to keep their star defender to stop a mass exodus at the club having already lost Jake Livermore and Snodgrass poised to follow his former teammate.

The sight of Maguire bursting through the middle of the park with the ball has become a familiar sight for Hull fans and was demonstrated fully in their 2-0 defeat to Chelsea last time out where he completed more dribbles than any other player on the pitch (5) – more than his entire team combined (4).

In fact, of players to have attempted at least 20 dribbles in the Premier League this season only four players have a better dribble success rate than Maguire 82.6%.
