Lorient notified of Liverpool interest in defender

Lorient have been made aware of Liverpool’s interest in Raphael Guerreiro, according to L’Equipe.

Jurgen Klopp has admitted he will look to strengthen his defence this month after being left without any fit central defenders following hamstring injuries sustained to Dejan Lovren and Kolo Toure in their 1-0 win over Stoke in the League Cup on Tuesday.

Liverpool were already left without Mamadou Sakho when he suffered the same problem in training earlier this week and Jon Flanagan is still recovering from a long-term injury.

Guerreiro, a left-sided defender, would not directly solve those problems but he would offer more options with Alberto Moreno the only fit out-and-out left-back.

The 22-year-old, who can also play further forward, has spent the last three years at Lorient and would also serve as an additional goal threat having scored seven goals last season in Ligue 1.

Moreover, no Lorient player has completed more dribbles in the league this season than Guerreiro (31).
