Sampdoria midfielder set for Portugal return

Bruno Fernandes looks set to leave Serie A giants Sampdoria and return to Portugal, with a move to Sporting CP on the cards, reports Football Italia.

The 22-year-old is currently with the Portugal U21 side for the European U21 Championship and despite making 23 starts for Sampdoria last season, the Genoa side look unable to retain the services the player.

Sampdoria took him on loan from Udinese with an option to buy last summer, yet look to have missed out on the chance to sign Fernandes permanently.

However, the Serie A side have identified his possible replacement in the form of Josip Ilicic from Fiorentina, with the Viola willing to cash in on the attacker.

The 29-year-old looks set to leave Fiorentina this summer, with Sampdoria keen on the Slovenia international as a Fernandes replacement.

Fernandes impressed for Sampdoria last season, with five goals and two assists across 34 Serie A appearances helping him earn a WhoScored rating of 6.61.
