Llorente makes Swansea move

Swansea City have secured the services of Fernando Llorente from Spanish side Sevilla.

The 31-year-old was part of Unai Emery’s side that won the Europa League last season, but was allowed to leave the club following Jorge Sampaoli’s appointment.

A host of teams were interested in Llorente, but Swansea won the race to secure his services.

Llorente makes Swansea move

“Swansea City today (Friday) clinched the signing of World Cup winner Fernando Llorente from Sevilla for an undisclosed fee,” a statement read on the club’s official website.

“The striker, who will wear squad number nine, has signed a two-year contract at the Liberty Stadium after undergoing a successful medical.

“Llorente arrives in SA1 with a hugely impressive CV, having won both the World Cup and European Championships with Spain, for whom he has 24 caps.

“At club level, he’s lifted two Serie A titles with Juventus, along with the Coppa Italia, while he reached the Champions League final in 2015.

“In Spain, the 31-year-old helped his first club Athletic Bilbao to the finals of the Copa del Rey and Europa League on three occasions.

“And, in May, he lifted silverware after Sevilla beat Liverpool in the Europa League final.

“His arrival bolsters Francesco Guidolin’s options up front as the Swans gear up for the new Premier League campaign.”
