Mourinho not interested in prising Manchester United midfielder to Tottenham

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho will not hand Nemanja Matic a route out of his Manchester United misery in January, claims the Manchester Evening News.

Matic is free to leave United in January after dropping completely out of favour under Mourinho's successor, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Serbia international is desperate to secure a move away from Old Trafford next month and there were suggestions he could reunite with Mourinho at Tottenham.

Matic was a first-team regular during Mourinho's time as United manager but the Portuguese is not seeking a reunion with the midfielder at a third Premier League club.

It leaves Matic increasingly facing the prospect of having to move abroad if he wants to leave United during the winter transfer window.

Antonio Conte was reportedly unhappy with Chelsea's decision to sanction Matic's sale to United in 2017 during his time at the club and now he is keen on a reunion at Inter.

Conte has lamented a lack of squad depth at Inter and Matic has reportedly been indentified as a possible target for January.

Solskjaer has described Matic as 'touch and go' in the build up to Wednesday's Premier League clash with Tottenham, as United welcome Mourinho for the first time since his sacking 12 months ago.

Matic has been limited to just three Premier League appearances this season and last appeared in the competition in United's 2-0 defeat to West Ham in September.

Since Solskjaer took interim charge of United just before Christmas last year, the Red Devils have a far suprerior win ratio when Matic has started in the Premier League (62.5%) compared to when he hasn't featured from the off (31.6%).
