Tottenham make Manchester United outcast a top transfer target

Tottenham have made Manchester United winger Anthony Martial a top transfer target this summer, reports the London Evening Standard.

Martial has rejected United’s offer of a new contract and is open to leaving the club this summer in order to find regular playing time.

The 22-year-old has dropped further down the pecking order at United since Alexis Sanchez’s arrival from Arsenal in January.

Martial was left out of France’s squad for the 2018 World Cup squad last week and that only would have hammered home the fact he needs to escape Mourinho.

Chelsea are monitoring Martial’s future at Old Trafford but will face stiff competition from London rivals Tottenham.

Mauricio Pochettino has called on chairman Daniel Levy to back him this summer and the arrival of Martial would only bolster their chances of a title challenge.

Martial also appeals to Tottenham due to his versatility and ability to play up front.

Pochettino has failed to find a player willing to settle for a reserve role to Harry Kane but Martial will be able to fill in when required, as well as nail down a starting berth out wide.

Martial has only started 18 Premier League games in each of Mourinho’s two seasons at United.

Despite a lack of regular playing time, only Romelu Lukaku (16) scored more league goals than Martial (9) for United this season.
