Out of contract Tottenham defender considering a number of offers

Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen is considering a number of contract offers from across Europe, reports The Daily Star.

The Belgian's current deal in north London expires this summer and there have been no indications that Spurs will offer Vertonghen a new contract.

Compatriot Toby Alderweireld penned a new deal with the club in December and it was expected that Vertonghen would follow suit, but nothing has changed for the 33-year-old.

Spurs are in the market for a new centre-back to cover the expected exits of Vertonghan and Juan Foyth this summer and there are a number of potential suitors for the former.

Indeed, Real Betis are rumoured to have made a move for the Belgium international, yet face competition from LaLiga rivals Valencia and Italian pair Roma and Inter.

Vertonghen, though, is yet to make a final decision on his future and is still open to a Spurs stay should they open talks over a new deal.

It may also be that Vertonghen signs a short-term deal with Spurs due to the season delay as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, though this must be agreed by both player and club by June 23rd, as per FIFA guidelines.
