Liverpool prepared to shatter club transfer record for new striker

Liverpool are ready to offer Borussia Dortmund £61m to sign star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this summer, reports Le Parisien, via The Daily Express.

Aubameyang was widely expected to join Paris Saint-Germain this summer but Antero Henrique, who was appointed PSG’s new sporting director earlier this month, has killed their interest in the striker.

Dortmund have previously made it be clear that they would only do business for Aubameyang if Real Madrid or Barcelona came in for the Gabon international but reports now suggest Liverpool will try their luck.

Jurgen Klopp worked with Aubameyang during the final two years of his time as Dortmund manager and the 28-year-old is reportedly interested about the idea of reuniting with the German at Anfield this summer.

Liverpool haven’t broken their club transfer record since paying £35m for Andy Carroll in January 2011 but could now be set to break it on two occasions this summer.

The Premier League giants are expected to finalise a transfer for Roma winger Mohamed Salah before the end of the month in a deal that could be worth €45m (£39.6m), while Fenway Sports Group are reportedly prepared to break the bank for Aubameyang as well.

It’s since Klopp left the Bundesliga giants that Aubameyang has developed into one of the best goalscorers in Europe. In the last two Bundesliga campaigns only Robert Lewandowski (60) has scored more goals than the Dortmund striker (56).
