Manchester United eye summer move for impressive Benfica youngster

Manchester United are eyeing defensive reinforcements in the summer, with the Premier League side keeping tabs on Benfica youngster Ruben Dias, reports the Sun.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is planning for a long-term stay at the Old Trafford helm after making such a sustained impact following his appointment as Jose Mourinho’s successor in December.

The Norwegian was only expected to remain at the club until the end of the season, but Solskjaer is now the favourite to be the next permanent United boss and he is now considering potential summer targets to improve the squad.

And Dias has cropped up on the club's radar, with the 21-year-old impressing for the Liga NOS leaders.

United are no stranger to acquiring defensive reinforcements from Benfica having signed Victor Lindelof from the Portuguese side in 2017.

Dias has developed a statistically calculated WhoScored strength of ‘passing’, that deemed to be very strong, and for good reason too.

Only teammate Alejandro Grimaldo (1410) has made more passes than Dias (1352) in Liga NOS this season, with United scouts rumoured to have been in attendance to run the rule over the centre-back in their Europa League 1-0 loss at Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday.
