New Bayern Munich signing set for spell on the sidelines

Bayern Munich have announced James Rodriguez faces a short spell on the sidelines after suffering a thigh injury during their 3-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Audi Cup.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side signed Rodriguez from Real Madrid on an initial two-year loan deal at the start of July but the Colombia international has suffered an early set back.

Rodriguez is desperate for regular game time and made the decision to reunite with Ancelotti after falling down the pecking order under Zinedine Zidane in Spain.

However, Rodriguez will now miss the German Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday and remains a doubt for the start of the upcoming league campaign, which starts on August 18.

Bayern also confirmed Thiago Alcantara has suffered an abdominal muscle injury and will miss their clash with Dortmund at the weekend, while David Alaba is training individually and remains a doubt.

In the last three La Liga campaigns only Lionel Messi (19) and Cristiano Ronaldo (13) scored more goals from outside the box than Rodriguez (11).
