Chelsea ace set to miss FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham
Thibaut Courtois is set to miss Chelsea’s FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham on Saturday with the same ankle injury that kept him out of their 2-0 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday, reports The Daily Mirror.
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte was reportedly left incensed that Courtois picked up the ankle injury during the club’s participation in a basketball promotion and is now set to be without his No.1 goalkeeper for their huge Wembley date.
It means that Asmir Begovic will start for the second game in a row and while he is arguably one of the best reserve goalkeepers in the Premier League, the absence of Courtois, who has been in fine form this season, will be a huge blow to their chances of overcoming form side Tottenham.
Chelsea have lost two of their last four matches in the Premier League and have seen their lead at the top of the table cut to four points and defeat on Saturday to their closest rivals could land a huge psychological blow to Conte’s men.
No goalkeeper has kept more clean sheets in the Premier League this season than Courtois (13).
