Barcelona make final push for Paris Saint-Germain target
Barcelona sent a delegation to Amsterdam in a last-ditch attempt to convince Ajax starlet Frankie de Jong to snub Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City at the end of the season, reports ESPN.
De Jong has emerged as one of the most sought after talents in Europe over the last 12 months and is currently in the middle of a three-way tug-of-war between some of the biggest clubs in the world.
City, Barcelona and PSG have all been close to landing De Jong at one point this season but the latter are the current frontrunners for his signature.
PSG’s promise of guaranteed playing time and a higher salary has not been matched by any other side and De Jong looks set to choose the French giants despite a desire to play under Pep Guardiola.
The Spaniard wanted to sign De Jong this month but City are not interested in entertaining his spiralling valuation and are assessing other targets for the summer.
De Jong averages more passes per game than any other player in Holland’s top-flight this season (80.1), while impressively completing 92.2% of them.
