Argentina international has revealed his joy ahead of his impending move to Paris Saint-Germain and has already set his sights on helping the Ligue 1 champions claim the elusive Champions League trophy.
Di Maria, 28, is expected to have his £44.3m move from Manchester United made official in the coming days having already completed his medical in Doha.
Laurent Blanc’s side have been desperately trying to win the Champions League since being bought by Qatari investors in 2011, but have failed to make it to the semi-finals stage in each of the last three campaigns and Di Maria is hoping he can prove the difference.
“I am very happy to join Paris Saint-Germain. What I know about PSG is that they are a team who have won all possible titles in France last season. They’re important,” Di Maria is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.
“They made it to the quarter-finals of the Champions League so my objective was to arrive to Paris and to help them through the quarter-final barrier, because they have struggled in the past two seasons. I will try to do the best I can to help the club in those objectives and reach the final stages of the Champions League.”
Di Maria’s ability going forward could prove the difference for PSG, who will need to score more goals if they want to progress to the business end of UEFA's premier club competition. In fact, 12 teams scored more goals than the Ligue 1 outfit (12) in the Champions League last season.
