Arsenal target on verge of Roma switch

Roma are on the verge of signing Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi, reports Gianluca Di Marzio.

N’Zonzi has been heavily linked with a move away from Sevilla in the last 12 months after emerging as one of the best midfielders in Spain.

Former Sevilla boss Unai Emery was reportedly interested in reuniting with the 2018 World Cup winner at Arsenal this summer.

However, the transfer window for English clubs shut last week and now Roma are poised to land the 29-year-old in a deal worth an initial €30m (£26.7m).

N’Zonzi has a release clause of €35m (£31.2m) in his existing Sevilla contract but Roma have managed to broker a deal for just less than that when factoring in add-ons.

The former Stoke midfielder made five appearances for France at the 2018 World Cup, but four of those were from the bench.

In the last two La Liga campaigns, only Real Sociedad midfielder Asier Illarramendi (4178) has completed more passes than N’Zonzi (4141).
