Chinese Super League side ponder £20m bid for Manchester United skipper
Chinese Super League side Beijing Guoan are weighing up a £20m move for Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Rooney, 31, has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford since breaking Sir Bobby Charlton’s goalscoring record earlier this month with clubs from China and MLS interested in his services.
The England international has dropped down the pecking order at United this season and is no longer first choice under Jose Mourinho but with two-and-a-a-half years left to run on his existing deal, his long-term future remains up in the air.
However, Rooney is being lined up by a number of clubs in China, who have until February 28 to make signings, and Beijing Guoan are reportedly willing to double his current United salary and offer him £600,000-a-week wages.
Despite only starting eight Premier League matches this season, Rooney has registered more assists than any other teammate thus far (5).
