Inter were willing to pay Real Madrid €85m (£73m) for James Rodriguez this summer, according to Sports Illustrated, via Marca.
Rodriguez, 25, was heavily linked with a move away from Madrid this summer with a number of Europe’s biggest clubs reportedly interested in signing the attacking midfielder.
However, the Colombia international had reached an agreement with Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane earlier in the summer that he would stay and fight for his place rather than look for first team opportunities elsewhere.
Of players to have started at least five matches in the last five La Liga campaigns Rodriguez required fewer minutes per key pass than any other player (27.8 mins).
